Neurolove.me: Why Do We Cry?
1. Crying is a natural release – a normal response to feelings of pain, anger, hurt and frustration,
2. It is also a common response to anything that has a profound effect on us – things that make us feel deeply happy; something that is really touching and beautiful; or having things work out when we thought they would go wrong.
3. On a physiological level, we experience a buildup of energy with feelings and crying helps to re-establish equilibrium again.
4. It releases hormones that reduce our stress levels so we’re more able to cope, and to think with a clear mind.
5. Crying is also a survival mechanism. It highlights something’s wrong, and need our urgent attention.
5. Related to that, it brings social support as crying touches other people. Thus, we get the help we need, so we feel less overwhelmed.
